ABOUT THE BOOK

Bailey Craig vowed never to set foot in Yancey, Alaska, again. She has a past, and a reputation--and Yancey's a town that doesn't forget. She's returned only to bury a loved one killed in the plane crash, but then dark evidence emerges and Bailey's own expertise becomes invaluable for the case.

Cole McKenna can face dangerous rescue dives. He can face the fear a murderer may be threatening his town. But facing the reality of Bailey's reappearance is a tougher challenge. She broke his heart... but doesn't seem to be the same girl who left Yancey ten years ago. And he's not the same guy she left behind.

Racing against the clock and a rising body count, Bailey and Cole must move beyond the hurts of their pasts to work together until the truth of what is hidden in the depths finally surfaces.

MY REVIEW

Written at a pulse-accelerating pace, filled with plenty of action, and brimming with fascinating historical detail, Submerged is a book that is sure to please readers who love to read Christian romantic suspense novels. Now, as a male reader I must admit that some of the elements of romance were a bit much for me - but what can you expect with a book aimed at a female audience? Despite that, I quite enjoyed the intricate plot and the details of Russia's past and the interplay with the present. I don't want to give too much of the plot away, but I can say that I loved the scenes involving the rescue dives and the under-water search for clues to what is behind the murders that have taken place! Indeed, the opening chapters had me holding my breath as I watched the drama unfold.

The author has a strong sense of pacing and has crafted a well-plotted, believable suspense novel. She also shines in her character development, creating a character in Bailey that readers are sure to identify with as she struggles with her past mistakes and feeling unworthy and unloved. I absolutely loved the strong threads of faith in Christ that permeate this novel, and which fully round out the characters as they experience love, healing, and freedom. The conclusion is one that will no doubt have female readers swooning and leaving them with a big smile on their face (oh all right, I admit that I may have been smiling as well...).

Dani Pettrey has offered up a strong debut novel, one sure to garner her new fans who are eager to see what she has up her sleeve for book two in the Alaskan Courage series. I strongly recommend this well-written book and award it 4 out of 5 stars.
