"Rebels" is an action-packed book that provides a thrilling conclusion to "The Safe Lands" series. Many of the unknown questions that we are left with during the first two books are answered in this final installment, such as what "liberation" truly means and whether it really leads to bliss. Although it had been some time since I'd read the second book in the series, I quickly became absorbed in the characters' lives all over again, as brothers Levi, Omar and Mason must choose if they will take up the mantle of bravery and courage, and lay down their lives for the many. As with the prior novels, I found myself frequently pondering the actions of the people living in the Safe Lands, as there are just so many correlations to our society today, as people increasingly abandon beliefs they see as "outdated" and pursue lives that are all about pleasure. Williams provides a sobering look at what our society could look like if people don't turn back to God.
But what I enjoyed best about this book is that it left me with a feeling of hope, and I found myself smiling as I closed the final pages of this book. Not only this book very well-written, with fantastic characters, lively scenes, and excellent dialogue, but it will leave you thinking about our responsibility to the people around us, who are chasing a future eerily similar to those in the Safe Lands. All in all, I loved this book! Well done Jill Williamson!
I wish I didn't have to leave the world of the Safe Lands already, because I have so enjoyed this series. I give this book a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars, and highly recommend the entire series.
