Giveaway & review of Nichole Nordeman's new CD "The Unmaking"

about the album....

"Before things in our lives can be resurrected and given new life, certain things must die. Before beauty blooms in spring, roots must do the hard work under the hard frozen soil of winter. Before you renovate and re-build, you tear down the parts of the structure that are weak or damaged or dangerous. Before we make, we must unmake." Nichole Nordeman

my review....

"The Unmaking", Nichole Nordeman's first studio project in more than 10 years, is a moving compilation of songs showcasing Nichole's amazing voice, all while lifting listener's hearts to God. The songs have been penned by Nichole, along with contributors, and reveal a deep devotion and a beautiful spirit that longs to glorify God and not herself. In reflecting on this album, Nichole has noted "I'm finding that the more willing I am to be honest about the broken parts of my life that are being unmade, and not necessarily shined up for presentation, the more likely I am to build something that matters. Stacking up these stones again to build what God has really been asking for all along…an altar". Such depth of devotion to God resonates through each song on this album. Now, I will admit that after having waited so long for another of her CD's I had been hoping for something a little longer, as this album contains only 6 tracks. But the songs included are memorable, especially the title track "The Unmaking", and also the song she partners with Plumb on, "Not to Us", a song I could sing over and over in Praise to God. Some of the songs on the album have had to grow on me, as they are a bit slower and introspective and I had to be in the right frame of mind to listen to them. But the lyrics are wonderful indeed, and when you add in Nichole's soaring vocals, I couldn't help but hit the replay button, such as with "Love you More", and just close my eyes and listen to her beautiful voice.

Long-time fans of Nichole Nordeman will be so pleased to see another of her albums hit the shelves. And I have no doubt that listeners who haven't yet come across her work will find much to love in this album. I award "The Unmaking" a solid rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
