The second book in the J.B. Collins series is a riveting read, filled with tremendous action scenes, compelling characters, and a plot that left me deep in thought as I considered the evil ways of ISIS. It was very difficult to step away from the story for even a minute as I wanted to find out what happened to the US president, and what lay in store for Collins himself. The events of the story are all too realistic to consider, as I could imagine them playing across the headlines of the world much too easily. Rosenberg does a great job at keeping the story moving swiftly for most of the book. There were a couple of moments where things seemed to slow down for me, especially when Collins is engaged in introspection and asking questions to himself in a way that seemed to go on a bit too much. But when Collins suits up to join operatives in flying into a village in Iraq, the writing pace went into hyper-drive and I couldn't stop reading until I reached the last chapter. I came to the last sentence feeling like I immediately needed to spend more time praying for the nations of our world and for God to intervene and act against the forces of evil that are at work. I greatly appreciate that I can pick up a well-written fiction book like this one, and learn about current events, history, and Biblical prophecy all in one. I look forward to what lies in store next for J.B. Collins!
Readers who enjoy contemporary suspense-filled novels that seem ripped from the headlines will want to pick up a copy of "The First Hostage". I award the book a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.
