Another winner! The Beautiful Pretender by Melanie Dickerson

The Beautiful Pretender

about the book...

What happens when a margrave realizes he’s fallen in love with a servant?
The Margrave of Thornbeck has to find a bride, fast. He invites ten noble-born ladies from around the country to be his guests at Thornbeck Castle for two weeks, a time to test these ladies and reveal their true character.
Avelina is only responsible for two things: making sure her deception goes undetected and avoiding being selected as the margrave’s bride. Since the latter seems unlikely, she concentrates on not getting caught. No one must know she is merely a maidservant, sent by the Earl of Plimmwald to stand in for his daughter, Dorothea.
Despite Avelina’s best attempts at diverting attention from herself, the margrave has taken notice. And try as she might, she can’t deny her own growing feelings. But something else is afoot in the castle. Something sinister that could have far worse—far deadlier—consequences. Will Avelina be able to stop the evil plot? And at what cost?
my review...

Melanie Dickerson has penned another winner! "The Beautiful Pretender" has an intriguing plot-line, characters you are sure to fall in love with, and a swoon-worthy ending that is sure to leave readers starry eyed.

Now, I have a confession to make: I actually chose this book for review for my daughter's sake. My daughter absolutely loved Dickerson's book, "The Golden Braid", and so when she saw that this latest book had been released, she absolutely begged to be able to read it! So the book was ordered, and when it arrived in our home it mysteriously disappeared until my daughter suddenly emerged from her room many hours later, declaring that "The Beautiful Pretender" is awesome. She adored the heroine, and she raised several talking points with me about the dilemma Avelina found herself in being forced to lie and use deceit. But here is my confession. I then picked up the book and found that I enjoyed it as much as my daughter did! The book simply bursts with intrigue and danger and excitement, and I couldn't put the book down. Now was the book a wee bit too romantic for a male readers tastes? Perhaps. But I recognize that I am not the typical intended audience and so I don't hold that against the book. I guarantee that if you pick up this novel, you will struggle to put it down, and find yourself enjoying this well-penned tale that will have you smiling and chuckling and then racing to see what happens. And if you don't believe me, then take the word of my daughter, who thinks that all pre-teen readers and up (she is age 11) are going to love this book.

My daughter awards this book 5 out of 5 stars.
