The latest novel from Randy Singer is superbly written, a riveting story that will hold you in its grip from start to finish. The plot crackles with tension, and seems pulled from the headlines as the author explores whether country leaders and administrations are justified in taking whatever action they deem necessary for the security of their country. Paige is a character that readers will no doubt admire, while also appreciating that she stumbles a bit in the choices she makes, a trait we all as humans share. And though she may become a hero in her own right, "Rule of Law" especially honours those who give their lives in service to their country, and does so in a way that gave me a new appreciation for the way that families of those in the military band together to share life, especially in the hard times. They offer those of us in the church quite the example of what we should be demonstrating to others!

In the midst of the action packed scenes, I think my favourite part of this novel is the way that Singer takes a look at the law, having his characters reaching to the highest courts of America to grapple with deep questions of morality. While I myself may not be American, the issues of how nations interact with each other and whether certain leaders are above the law are ones that should matter to all of us. Singer raises some questions that we all need to wrestle with, amazingly doing so in the midst of an entertaining and engaging novel.

"Rule of Law" takes its place as one of the best books that I've read this year. Readers who enjoy legal thrillers, or really are just looking for a well-written book of any kind, should get their hands on a copy and dive in for themselves. They will not be disappointed! I award this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
